About Simmer Sessions

“My Sun Sets to Rise Again” – Robert Browning
To simmer means to bring something to a gentle heat, not to rush it to a boil, but to allow “calming” time, space, and attention for the flavours to deepen. Simply put, in cooking, to simmer is to allow time to enjoy how the simplest ingredients become richer, more layered, and more complete. This analogy can apply in life and in work, it’s the same.
For years, I lived at the intersection of ideas and people, teaching, engaging in research and publishing insights, leading, and shaping systems that demanded both rigour and reflection. But what I did not know, is that all my experiences were connected. Once I let my experiences simmer, I was able to identify a thread that ran through my life. A thread linking all my experiences: career, connection and travel.
I came to learn that transformation, whether personal or organisational, rarely happens in moments of urgency. It happens in the simmer, in the quiet, consistent process of making sense, aligning purpose, processing our thoughts and finding the courage not only to act differently, but to meaningfully instil change.
Simmer Sessions was established from that understanding.
It began as a personal journal, a way to pause, observe, and translate everyday experiences into lessons about growth and meaning. Over time, it evolved into a practice of people change: how individuals and organisations can realign with what truly matters, and how intentional reflection, becomes the engine for sustainable transformation.
In this blog, I explore what it means to create change that lasts, the kind that doesn’t just purposefully restructure systems, but reshapes the way people think, work, and connect. I write about alignment: between purpose and practice, talent and strategy, leadership and community. I’m especially drawn to industries like mining and manufacturing, where the human element is often overshadowed by process, yet where the potential for transformation runs deepest. The key lies in recognising that the natural sciences and the technical processes, require equally deep social science analysis. When genuine commitment is given to both, at individual or organisational level, we step closer to the actual meaning of sustainability.
Every business challenge is, at its core, a human one. When people understand how they fit into a bigger purpose, when they see meaning in their contribution, the entire system begins to move differently. It transforms.
Simmer Sessions is a space to think slowly, act deliberately, and lead consciously.
It’s a space for those who believe that meaningful change doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful, it just needs to be lived, one reflective moment at a time.
